Treatments for Hemorrhoids
A hemorrhoid refers to the swelling or enlargement of the veins in the rectal area. It is normally caused by constipation, excessive sitting or lifting of heavy objects, and the strain brought about by pregnancy. Its common symptoms are pain, bleeding, itchiness, and a protruding lump in the anal region. There are a number of ways to treat this type of ailment. The two major types of treatments for hemorrhoids are curative products and surgical procedures.
The first type of treatment for hemorrhoids are used for cases of the said ailment that are in their early stages, as well as those that are relatively manageable. These curative products come in two main forms. First are the topical ointments, creams, and gels that are applied directly on the swollen region, and second are the capsules and tablets which are taken orally. The latter form takes a longer time to work because it has to be absorbed by the body before it can treat the ailment. In terms of contents, these two forms can either have natural ingredients or synthetic chemicals. Natural hemorrhoid remedies have an advantage over chemical-based products as the former poses no health risks to the user.
Moving on, the second type of hemorrhoid treatment involves surgical procedures that are administered by a doctor. This form of treatment is for hemorrhoids that have become so severe that they can no longer be treated by simple medication. An example of these procedures is rubber band ligation wherein the doctor ties off the hemorrhoid using a small piece of elastic material so that the swollen vein will eventually be removed. Another procedure is hemorrhoid stapling in which the protruding flesh is attached to the anal wall.
